Outcome of Vehicle Barrier Draft Proposal

The ROC has been exploring options over the past 12 months on possibilities for the installation of vehicle arm barriers at the completed estate road entrances (Linnet Drive & Madeira Walk).

Dear Residents,

As you may or may not be aware, the ROC has been exploring options over the past 12 months on possibilities for the installation of vehicle arm barriers at the completed estate road entrances (Linnet Drive & Madeira Walk). This was undertaken based on a number of owners coming to us asking the ROC to explore this option, given it might be preferred over other approaches such as parking enforcement.

The ROC recently drafted a formal proposal to Berkeley for their initial review, as Berkeley are currently the owners of the estate land, until they hand over to owners once construction has fully completed on site.

Berkeley reviewed the proposal, and whilst they have said they recognise owners' concerns and the number of different security incidents that have occurred over the past year, they have rejected the ROC's proposal to progress further for the time being.

Berkeley have stated that they would have to seek retrospective planning permission from the RBWM council, which they are not prepared to do at this current stage of construction.

Berkeley did say that once the estate ownership has been handed over to owners (likely 2028), then owners would be free to progress with the barrier proposal if there was support for it at that time, and seek the relevant permissions from local authorities etc.

In the interim, the ROC is now trying to progress other projects aimed to mitigate / prevent the types of security incidents that have occurred over the past 12 months - e.g., this includes updating of existing estate signage to be more explicit to members of the public.

For full transparency on what the ROC has proposed, and for reference in future years when the barriers may become a viable option, we would like to share with you the ROC's findings and proposal.

If you have any questions, as always do feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks
